Video Structure
Talking Head Video – Just You
What’s the video about in 10 seconds or less (state the problem) this is the “hook” and wants to convince people to watch the whole video.
- -Intro with title
- -Main content with story
- -Return to problem (so the viewers think, “I didn’t know it was that bad”)
- -Call to Action Outro (if you want to go deeper to solve this problem…here’s how)
Best practice: keep videos under 2 minutes (Youtube/LinkedIn Style) or 12-18 minutes (FB Live)
– see this post about optimum video lenght: https://wistia.com/blog/optimal-video-length
Channel authority on FB & Youtube increases if your viewers watch all the way through.
If people drop off at 1 minute on your 5 minute videos your channel authority decreases 🙁
Interview Video – You and guest
Write out your questions. Keep these follow up questions handy…
questions to get a story:
- ‘tell me about the time when…’
- ‘tell me the story of…’
- ‘how did this happen…?’
- ‘describe the conversation’
- ‘tell me about the day you realized…’
- ‘what were the steps that got you from here to there?’
questions to get reflection & emotion:
- ‘How did that make you feel?’
- ‘If the old you could see the new you – what would the old you say?’
- ‘Give voice to the debate in your head…’
- ‘if you could describe the debate that was going in your head – what was one side saying, what was the other side saying?’
- ‘what do you make of that?’
- ‘why is this story meaningful to you?’
Pro tip: after you ask any of the above – close your mouth and listen
Add your own commentary – with prompts for engagement
keep the interview to 12 – 18 minutes – see this post: https://wistia.com/blog/optimal-video-length
Intro-production
Create Intro & Outro Clips with Replay app (Outro should have call to action)
Create 15-30 second teaser video – with call to action to join broadcast
PROMOTION
Schedule Your FB Live Broadcast Time
see FB case study on teaser videos for podcast – Note: led to 4th FB video getting 500+ views: https://awesomevideomakers.com/smartphone-videos/
Initial Outreach:
- – Put announcement on blog – with link to join and subscribe
- – Post on Facebook about upcoming Broadcast (15-30 second teaser video will be seen more)
- – Post in Facebook groups (where appropriate) or on the group’s promotion days
- – Post on Twitter & Instagram & LinkedIn or Pinterest (if that’s where you and your people are) (the short teaser video uploaded to those site works best) use relevant hashtags
- – Schedule teaser posts ahead of time – Recurpost http://recurpost.com/ is a free tool that saves everything you’ve ever posted and let’s you re-schedule older posts. Other alternatives: http://Coschedule.com , http://MeetEdgar.com
- – Change your social media headers with announcement of FB live Date
- – When you invite your guest, ask them about promoting the FB broadcast and give them the details they’ll need: e.g. write the email message for them, add links. Be their friend on FB and tag them in the teaser video.
Equipment
- Clear old videos on phone onto hard drive to make storage room available
- Charge phone
- Choose quiet time of day (for daylight)
- Set up your back drop, phone on tripod & microphone
- Give yourself as much distance between yourself and the back drop as possible (less shadow)
When you’re doing an interview you’ll have to create a set up that shoots both you and a monitor with your guest in the back ground.
Set your notes up close to, or behind, the camera so you can read them without looking down or away from camera.
POST PRODUCTION
Email & FB Campaign:
- – 1 day after: Email Subscribers: create curiosity to click thru & watch replay on Blog
- – 1 day after: Transcribe Video into blog post
- – 2-3 days after: Email un-opens with link to blog post (different subject about problem video tackled)
- – 4-5 days after: Email entire list again with full content of blog post (option: Call to Action for content upgrade)
- – 6 days after: Boost the FB live video to a lookalike audience of our website traffic and — depending on the video and topic — potentially to other audiences for cold traffic and brand recognition.
Rinse & Repeat…!
“Recording a live video, then spinning it into an article and distributing that article through email (3x sends in a week), organic FB reach, and paid FB traffic has dramatically decreased the amount of time it takes to produce content, AND increased engagement with our audience, leading to less stress for me and more revenue for the company!”
